    ASTOVE ATOLL – WEEK 5

    14 December 2021

    ASTOVE ATOLL FISHING NEWS | WEEK 5 | 02 DECEMBER – 13 DECEMBER 2021

Week five started off with some winds still blowing from the south east and spring tide. On arrival tackle was set up and a brief run down on what to do and what to expect on the water was given. Everybody with rearing to go!

On day one we had some good fishing! Tom and Chris started their day off with some trigger fishing and each got one. Shortly after they each got their triggers, Tom still hade the trigger rod in his hands and did not have time to change rod when he had a shot at a GT. He managed to land a 65 cm GT on his 9 wt. Meaning Tom got his Flats Slam all on the 9 wt. Mike also manged a GT which he caught in the mouth of the lagoon, his measuring an impressive 65 cm. Shiloh was also on the trigger hunt and after losing one in the morning he redeemed himself that afternoon with getting a giant trigger.

As the week progressed the weather came in a bit, we had some over cast weather with some heavy wind and rain but it did not stop Shiloh and Nick from having a once in a life time experience where they got seven GTS, and unfortunately lost 5.

In the middle of the week Mike decided to spend some time on the bonefish hunt and he had some amazing bone fishing in the lagoon with landing about 40 bones in three days and biggest was a six pound bonefish.

Day seven it all come together for Shiloh with landing a 45 cm permit in the morning and that afternoon they come across a group of GTs and he got himself a 70 cm GT and on the way home he quickly stopped and got the bonefish to complete his Flats Slam . Chris also managed a 86 cm GT early that morning.

The last three day was on the tough side with the weather so the guys did some dredging and managed to get some groupers!

    Tight lines,
