Full moon spring tides, clear skies, and a stiff breeze greeted the eager group of guests on week 8 of the Cosmo season. A few veterans and a few newcomers to the Seychelles made up the group. Klaus and Christina Vander, Stella Chloe, Tim Dykman, Don Armstrong, Len Skead, Gary Cordovano and Sidney Coetzee were the lucky anglers for the week.
With the early morning dropping tide for most of the week the group got stuck into the exceptional bone fishing that Cosmo has to offer with most guests breaking the seven-pound mark. The GT fishing on the flats was unusually slow but the offshore fishing made up for it.
The yellowfin tuna were around in good numbers and Tim, Don, Sidney, and Stella all got a taste of just how hard these gas bottles can pull! Stella managed to land a great specimen weighing an estimated 45lbs. On the same boat Stella’s boat partner Don landed the first Wahoo for the season.
Len and Sidney had a great week both on the flats and off. After more trips to the Seychelles than most Len finally managed to land his first triggerfish. He managed two for the week including a double up with Sidney. Len also got his hands on a solid dogtooth tuna that had his 14-weight fly rod bending to the cork! Sidney kept ticking the boxes this week but the highlight had to be when a good-sized napoleon wrasse engulfed his popper, a great catch.
Christina managed her first triggerfish, showing her husband Klaus how it’s done. The GT of the week belonged to Klaus. In fact, he caught the two biggest fish of the week. On day one Klaus set the benchmark at a pretty high. He landed a monster 124cm fish and later in the week came close to that again with another meter plus fish that measured 115cm. Well done Klaus, two monster GTs! It was a tough week on the flats but with the diversity that Cosmo has to offer the team kept the rods bending all week and great fun was had by all. Tight lines.
